Dragonfly Art Block on Wood

This is a nifty piece of art-a true Dragonfly! Roughly 4 x 4 x 3/4 inches...perfect for a first art gift or a small space that needs some love. All my blocks are hand painted and sealed with a clear acrylic sealer to keep your art block clean and safe from scratches.

I am fascinated by the myth that Dragonflies were once Dragons? Their family name Odonata comes from the Greek word for tooth as Odonates were believed to have teeth.

The Dragonfly has different meanings all over the world too. To the Japanese, it symbolizes summer and autumn and are admired and respected all over, so much so that the Samurai use it as a symbol of power, agility and best of all, Victory.

In China, people associate the dragonfly with prosperity, harmony and as a good luck charm.

Amongst Native Americans, it is a sign of happiness, speed and purity. Purity because the dragonfly eats from the wind itself.
